Upgrading to Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon was quick and easy as ever, as in For me, home is on another separate partition to the operating system, did a clean install it (for precautionary backup before). Only format the partitions corresponding to where the OS and the swap partition, leaving the home partition intact. The entire operation with support from the most important information I took more than 2 hours. Immediately everything was left running, the accounts in Pidgin not lost and the settings of firefox either. Another pleasant surprise was the recognition of the webcam that is integrated into the laptop. One of the things I liked was the integration with Fusion Copiz default, being able to see them from the Live CD without installing it.
are some of the new features:
- Kernel 2.6.22, GNOME 2.20, Xorg 7.3. Kubuntu comes with KDE 3.5.7 but will be the option to install KDE4 RC2 (great!).
- Ubuntu Server packages include security system developed by Novell, AppArmor.
- "Gutsy" will be the first to bear, compositing by default (for 3D effects), and include the newly baptized Compiz Fusion. Yes, boom. Xorg 7.3
- means automatic configuration of monitors to plug them. Ie in most cases will not have to edit the xorg.conf famous. Also, if you have two monitors connected, you can configure graphically through a new program called displayconfig , a new program that will facilitate this task.
